LE GENDRE (Antoine). *La Manière de cultiver les arbres fruitiers*. Paris: La Compagnie des libraires du Palais, 1665. – [TRIQUEL (Robert)]. Instructions for Fruit Trees. Ibid., 1664. Two works in one in-12 volume, red morocco, double gilt rule, decorated spine, marbled edges (contemporary binding). A new edition of *La Manière de cultiver les arbres fruitiers* by Antoine Legendre (1590–1665), parish priest of Hénouville, chaplain to Louis XIII and supervisor of His Majesty’s orchards. The first edition of this important work for the modern practice of fruit tree cultivation dates from 1652. A reprint of the third edition of *Instructions pour les arbres fruitiers* (*Instructions for Fruit Trees*), by Robert Triquel, prior of Saint-Mars, has been bound together with it. The first three editions of this treatise were published between 1653 and 1658. A fine copy in contemporary red morocco leather. A handwritten bookplate by Jean-Baptiste Rollan, of Vallabrègues, dated 1734 on the first white endpaper. Minor repairs to the caps, two blunt corners, a few insignificant stains on the covers; a small brown stain at the lower corner of the first few leaves, faint water stain at the bottom of the volume, a few small foxing spots, and ink stains on pp. 58–59 of the second volume.
