Folio, marbled sheepskin, triple gilt rule, spine with decorated faux-ribbing, red edges (19th-century binding). First Aldine edition, printed in two columns, with the Aldine anchor on the title page and on the final leaf. ‘This work, of great use for understanding Cicero, first appeared under the title *Observationes in Ciceronem*, from Prato Albuini (Brixiæ), 1535... ‘The Aldine edition of 1570 is far superior to this first one,’ writes Brunet. Ex-libris bearing a coat of arms with an unidentified lion emerging from a shield. Top caps and three false ribs missing, split clamps, a few scattered foxing spots.
