[LAVIE (Jean-Charles de)]. On Political Bodies and Their Governments. Second edition, revised and substantially expanded. Lyon, Pierre Duplain the Elder, 1766. 2 volumes in one in-4 volume, marbled calfskin, decorated spine, marbled edges (contemporary binding). Second edition, partly in the original form, of this work deeply influenced by Jean Bodin’s *The Republic*. The publisher brought out a 3-volume edition in-12 format in the same year.
Jean-Charles de Lavie (1690–1767), a magistrate and president of the Parliament of Bordeaux, was a friend of Montesquieu.
