Description
[BIBLE]. The Holy Bible, carefully and faithfully revised in accordance with the finest examples of what is known as the ‘old translation’. Lyon, Jean de Tournes, 1558. In-8, sows’ hide stamped on wooden boards, a wide band of labelled vignettes depicting the Annunciation, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection, the date 1559 in the central rectangle, spine with four raised bands, metal clasps (contemporary binding). Lyon edition printed in two columns.
It is sought after for the 198 woodcuts by Bernard Salomon with which it is illustrated.
Title page with tears (recoloured), water stains and marginal repairs; fastenings replaced; tears along the edges.
