ERASMUS. *In Praise of Folly*. Amsterdam, François L’Honoré, 1745. In-12, marbled sheepskin, decorated spine, red edges (contemporary binding). New edition of Nicolas Gueudeville’s translation.
It is illustrated with 6 fold-out copperplate engravings and 75 woodcuts within the text, engraved by Pierre Le Sueur after drawings made by Hans Holbein in his copy of the first edition of 1511, now held in Basel.
Two frontispieces have been added to the copy (traces of glue at the margins).
Restored binding, slight foxing.
