ROMANELLI Giovanni Francesco (Attributed to) Viterbo 1610 – ibid.; 1662 Study of a draped man turning round, holding a staff in his left hand. Black chalk, stump and white highlights on bluish paper. Mounted on a sheet (Small tear in the top right-hand corner; small losses in the margins and slight stains in the upper part) Inscribed on the backing sheet in black chalk as ‘Romanelli’, and on the reverse as ‘Romaneli’. H. 25.5 – W. 16.5 cm Provenance: Two purple stamps from the Roman dealer Johanna Knill, 67 Via del Babuino – Rome. Initially thought to depict the figure of Saint Joseph in the ‘Flight into Egypt’ from the former Barberini & Corsini collections (New York, Christie’s, 11 January 1995, lot 10).
