Clément MASSIER (1844–1917)
Carp dish
Golfe-Juan, c. 1890–1900
A large circular dish with a wide, flat rim, made of earthenware and decorated with polychrome metallic highlights, set against a background of iridescent gold lustre.
Three copper-red carp swim amongst aquatic flora and fauna (prawns, crustaceans, jellyfish, shells), against a background enlivened by incised lines evoking water.
The reverse features crackled white enamel, with a blue-grey rim; it has a metal wire hanging loop.
Two circular labels from the Clément Massier factory in Golfe-Juan on the reverse.
D: 45 cm.
