Description

René OLIVIER (1874 - 1962). "Market scene in the North". Oil on canvas signed and dated "1912" lower right. 73 cm x 54 cm. René Olivier was born in Elbeuf into a family of textile manufacturers. He was a pupil of Berthe Mouchel and was admitted to the Artistes Français in 1900. He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in 1904 and was noticed by another Norman painter, Lebourg, for his work. He took advantage of the intense artistic activity in Rouen and Paris (he attended the Académie Julian) at the beginning of the 20th century. He also visited the northern countries.
