Description
A fine mid-18th-century court sword,
The broad-based triangular blade, with three hollow sides, is embellished with floral motifs and bears the motto ‘Do not surrender me without honour’ in the main hollow side.
Sculpted and re-pierced wrought-iron mount with an olive-shaped pommel, a prominent rivet button, a flared crossguard re-pierced at its centre, a forward-curving quillon, no functional crossguard, symmetrical openwork bivalve pommel engraved with floral gadroons, a curved four-sided shaft finely decorated with a filigree of fine double silver wires interspersed with a filigree of archaic wires.
No scabbard.
