Eight-panel lacquer screen decorated with birds, wading birds and peacocks, peonies and flowers, vases and scholars’ objects in a polychrome border on a black to brown ground, with gold highlights. The reverse is decorated with scenes of bustling palace life, landscapes, mythical creatures, flowers and birds in medallions. The lower crossbar is cut-out. Some slight lifting. Late 19th century.
