Description
E. DURU (19th–20th centuries). Cabinetmaker, 13 Rue Beccaria, Paris (12th arrondissement).
Serving cabinet in moulded wood, with burl and figure veneer, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, iridescent mother-of-pearl and gilded bronze, opening via a recess and a door in the lower section. On all three sides, a central band inlaid with a large frieze of contrasting butterflies alternating with bellflowers, brass fillets and bronze volutes. Inlaid mouldings. Rich ornamentation of chiselled and gilded bronze: plant-decorated uprights topped with large fern fronds and smaller cascading ones, plant-decorated feet, and beaded friezes. Very slight marks and lifting. Top in breccia marble (restored, glued). Signed at the front on the intermediate crossbar.
