Description
Sword of the King’s Bodyguard, 2nd model, 1815. Handle covered in stingray skin, with a watermark. Chiselled, gilded brass mountings. Long-tailed pommel. Guard with one main prong and three secondary prongs, featuring a shell-shaped escutcheon bearing the Arms of France surrounded by foliage. Quillon cut into a fleur-de-lis shape. Curved blade, with a flat back marked ‘Manufre Rle du Klingenthal November 1814’, hollow edges and a fuller, marked on one side ‘Garde Du Corps Du Roi’ above a fleur-de-lis and military insignia, hallmarked at the heel, and on the other side a radiant sun, a shield bearing three fleurs-de-lis beneath a crown, surrounded by foliage and military insignia. Scabbard with two iron bands, featuring a chiselled, gilded brass cup. ABE (signs of wear, pitting).
