A vermeil (gold-plated silver) set, hallmarked ‘Vieillard’, comprising: 1 chalice, decorated with applied figures of Christ, the Virgin Mary and Saint John, framed by cherubs’ heads and foliage (H: 28 cm) (weight: 463 g), 1 paten decorated with the monogram ‘IHS’ surrounded by a crown of thorns (diameter: 14 cm, weight: 102 g), a pair of cruets (H: 13 cm) and an oval tray (25.5 x 15.5 cm), the cruets and tray engraved with ecclesiastical coats of arms featuring a cord with ten tassels. Silversmith: Jean-Charles CAHIER (Soissons, 1772 – Marseille, 1857). In a case (minor knocks to the cruets; one part of the case is missing) (total weight: 930 g)
The episcopal coat of arms on the cruets and tray are those of Augustin DE MAILHET DE VACHÈRES (1763 – 1842), Bishop of Tulle from 1825 to 1842.
