Voluntary lot
Description
OVCHINNIKOV & F. RÜCKERT
A three-handled bowl in 916-thousandths silver (88 zolotnik) with cloisonné enamel, baluster-shaped, resting on a circular foot; the body is decorated with lobed cartouches enamelled with multicoloured, shaded flowers and swans, the upper section and the scroll-shaped handles are enamelled with flowers, foliage and scrollwork against a cream background (signs of wear, minor losses of enamel)
Hallmarked beneath the base:
Silversmith: Feodor Rückert (“Ф.Р.”),
Pavel Ovchinnikov workshop mark in Cyrillic,
Hallmark of the Russian Imperial Court supplier.
Kokoshnik by Master Assayer Ivan Lebedkin for Moscow, 1899–1908.
Height: 13 cm;
Gross weight: 735 g
These three-handled bowls are a characteristic form of Fedor Rückert’s work. It is interesting to note that the prominent Ovchinnikov firm, like Fabergé, marketed and subsequently distributed a large number of works from this workshop.
By way of comparison, a three-handled bowl decorated with swans and bearing the same hallmarks was offered at the Christie’s sale on 29 November 2021 (lot 137), where it was sold for €43,750. Another bowl, lacking the Rückert hallmark, fetched €51,520 at Le Calvez & Associés on 19 January 2023 (lot 18).
For this lot, please contact the auction house before 4.00 pm on 16 October on 04 68 32 10 33; a deposit will be required in order to bid.
