Félix Ziem ( 1821 - 1911), Sunset in Holland. Oil on canvas marouflaged on panel, restorations, signed Ziem lower right, size: 44.5x65 cm + frame: 50.5*69 cm. Provenance: private collection, Switzerland. A very similar composition can be found on another painting by Félix Ziem, entitled Farm in Holland, sold on 21 April 2010 at Bonhams New York, European Paintings, lot 125.
A French painter close to the Barbizon School, Ziem was renowned for his seascapes and landscapes of Venice and the Orient. He is considered one of the precursors of Impressionism.
