Charles Christofle, 1844-1847. TWO HORS D'OEUVRE BOWLS FROM THE TABLE SERVICE OF LOUIS-PHILIPPE IER, KING OF THE FRENCH, AT THE CHÂTEAU D'EU. One engraved with the arms of the last king of the French, azure with three golden fleurs-de-lys with a silver label surmounted by the closed crown, on a background of tricoloured flags, with the sceptre and the hand of justice in saltire. The second engraved with the arms of the Princes of Orléans, azure with three fleurs-de-lys Or and a label Argent, surrounded by the collars of the Order of Saint Michael and the Holy Spirit, surmounted by a crown of Prince of France. Threaded model Silver-plated metal Length: 19.4 cm Hallmarks: de maître and stamped CHRISTOFLE Designated in the State of Christofle Silverware taken out of the Palais d'Eu and sent to England to the Orléans family after the revolution of February 1848 (see cat. appendix). Provenance : -Louis-Philippe I, King of the French, at the Château d'Eu -his widow, Marie-Amélie, Queen of the French -his son, Louis d'Orléans, Duke of Nemours -his son, Ferdinand d'Orléans, Duke of Alençon -by descent.
