Charles Christofle, 1844-1847. RARE ASPARAGUS TONGS FROM THE TABLE SERVICE OF LOUIS-PHILIPPE IER, KING OF THE FRENCH, AT THE CHÂTEAU D'EU. Engraved with the coat of arms of the last king of the French, azure with three golden fleurs-de-lys with a silver label surmounted by the closed crown, on a background of tricoloured flags, with the sceptre and the hand of justice in saltire. Threaded model Silver-plated metal Length: 26.5 cm Hallmarks: de maître and the CHRISTOFLE stamp as well as the EU mark. Designated in the State of Christofle Silverware taken out of the Palace of Eu and sent to England to the Orleans family after the revolution of February 1848 (see ill. annex cat.). Provenance : -Louis-Philippe I, King of the French, at the Château d'Eu -his widow, Marie-Amélie, Queen of the French -his son, Louis d'Orléans, Duke of Nemours -his son, Ferdinand d'Orléans, Duke of Alençon -by descent.
