Description
JAPAN, Edo period, 17th century for export. Cabinet with two doors and ten drawers. Black and brown lacquered wood decorated in hira-maki-e and taka-maki-e, gilt bronze side handles. It stands on later legs. The front is decorated with a waving tree and walking ducks, and the drawers with landscaped scenes. The inside of the doors is powdered with nashiji lacquer. The bronze clasps and fasteners have a high copper content and are finely chased and engraved. Height 79 cm - Width 91 - Depth 49 cm. Cracked reverse, visible wear and minor damage.
