Description
JAPAN, Edo period, 17th century for export.
Cabinet with two doors and ten drawers. Black and brown lacquered wood decorated in hira-maki-e and taka-maki-e, gilt bronze side handles. It stands on later legs. One, from the early 17th century, is decorated with landscapes. The inside of the doors is painted with peonies on a nashiji lacquer background.
Finely chased and engraved gilt bronze clasps and locks.
Height 80 cm, width 91 cm, 50 cm. Crack on the right door, visible wear and minor damage.
