PRE-COLOMBIAN ART - NICOYA -COSTA RICA
Beautiful pair of pedestal vases decorated with a jaguar's head in relief. The cream-coloured body is highlighted with a wide band of geometric decoration. Three registers decorate the flared neck with stylised snakes and faces of divinities. These motifs can also be found at the base of the foot.
Polychrome terracotta with traces of roots. Pataky polychrome style, Gran Nicoya region, Costa Rica, 1000 - 1350 AD.
