Hand of Buddha - Base by Kishizo Inagaki (1876-1951) Buddha's hand in the "Abhaya-Mudra" position Bronze with patina and traces of gilding Kingdom of Siam, 16th century H: 23 cm H (with base): 29.3 cm Important plinth by Kishizo Inagaki (1876-1951), circa 1940 Provenance: Galerie Robert Duperrier, Paris Acquired by the current owner in 1983. This is a gesture that induces comfort and salvation, dispels fear and grants divine protection. It is one of the first Mudras to be depicted in a number of Buddhist images. In Sanskrit, Abhaya means absence of fear. The practice of this Mudra is believed to activate the Ajna Chakra (third eye chakra), associated with intuition and spiritual knowledge. Abhaya Mudra plays a crucial role in Buddhist practice and meditation.
