A set of three carved and gilded wooden chairs with openwork backs. The seats are upholstered in grey-green silk with floral motifs. The curved legs end in deer or faun hooves. Beneath the seats, the chairs bear old handwritten labels in ink reading ‘Madame la duchesse de Castries’ (1796–1861), who was Honoré de Balzac’s mistress. Regency style, 19th century.
