JEAN BESNARD (1889–1958)
‘Floral Primitivism & Molette Decoration’ c. 1930
A rare and significant spinning-top vase with a flat, ring-shaped neck.
Executed in white crackled-glazed ceramic; the upper section features a floral decoration engraved with a scriber by the artist, leaving the patinated clay visible, whilst the lower section features a wheel-carved decoration created using the same technique.
Signed ‘Jean BESNARD France’ on the underside.
H. 26 cm – D. 31 cm
Restorations: a chip beneath the base, not visible when the vase is standing.
