950‰ silver jug with an ovoid body on a tripod base ending in feline paws, decorated with friezes of ovals and arches, palmettes and flowers; the rim is bud-shaped; the spout is horse-head shaped; the handle is made of blackened wood. ‘Mavelot “DB”’ incised on the body. Goldsmith’s mark ‘P M’ partially visible, possibly attributable to Philippe MOLLIET-CLAUDET (?). In compliance with regulations (old man’s head hallmarks for 1st standard in Paris, 1819–1839, with gross guarantee hallmarks; there is also a Greek woman’s head hallmark known as ‘revolutionary’ and a crab).
