‘Juliette Récamier as a Vestal Virgin’
Medallion/tondo-format bust portrait, carved in bas-relief on alabaster, signed “J. PRADIER” beneath the model’s left shoulder. In a blackened wooden frame (shows signs of wear, restored).
Diameter: approx. 23.5 cm; 34.5 cm including the frame.
(Shows signs of wear, scuffs, stains).
Note: it is said that, at the request of Madame Récamier, the artist drew inspiration from the famous bust portrait (this one in the round) sculpted by Antonio Canova (1819–1822, Lyon, MBA, no. A 2921).
