Seditious Legitimist box. ‘The Best of the Republics’, c. 1848, large bronze medallion-box bearing a bust of the Republic facing left, wearing a Phrygian cap, inscribed ‘VOILA LA MEILLEURE DES REPUBLIQUES’, on the reverse, centred within an oak wreath: ‘JUS DIVINUM SALUS POPULI’. Inside are nine small medals set within a white metal frame. In the centre, ‘HENRI DE FRANCE’, head facing right; on the reverse, three lilies and the inscription ‘AVENIR PROSPERITE’, 18 mm.
