Glove box in burl wood with rosewood frames inlaid with a brass ivy frieze.
The lid is decorated with a monogrammed escutcheon from which foliage scrolls emerge.

Jean Pierre TAHAN was a renowned French cabinetmaker and manufacturer of luxury furniture, born in 1813 in Paris and died in 1892. Heir to the workshop founded by his father, he developed one of the most renowned cabinetmaking houses in Paris during the Second Empire.
He was notably a supplier to Emperor Napoleon III and was known for his caskets, travel sets, exquisite small pieces of furniture and richly decorated objets d’art.
His business enjoyed great success in the 1850s and 1860s before declining following the fall of the Second Empire in 1870.
