Biography:
Édouard Pingret (1785–1869), a pupil of Jacques-Louis David and Jean-Baptiste Regnault, studied at the Academy of Saint Luke in Rome. In 1808, he painted a portrait of Napoleon I. From 1810 onwards, he exhibited at the Paris Salons. In 1831, he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour. In 1851, he moved to South America.
