Description
Louis DAMON (1860–1947), 20 Boulevard Malesherbes, Paris, c. 1900. Large glazed porcelain plant pot decorated with gold stripes, with side handles in the shape of the paws of fantastical creatures in gold relief, hand-signed on the underside of the base. H: 36 cm and Ø: 35 cm. Some wear and scuffing to the gilding.
Louis Damon (1860–1947) became the owner of the shop ‘Au Vase Étrusque’ at 20 Rue Malesherbes in Paris in 1887. In 1889, the Daum brothers commissioned him to finish the long-handled Berluz vases. Louis Damon’s creations between 1889 and 1905 are signed LDamon, LDamon/Parus or DAMON/PARIS, sometimes followed by the address 20, boulevard Malesherbes.
