A box made of solid rosewood and rosewood veneer, with the lid decorated with mother-of-pearl marquetry featuring the monogram ‘LI’ for Louise Ibels (1891–1965) set within a border of stained wood marquetry valances; likely a painter’s colour box, dating from the Napoleon III period. 6 x 31 x 18.5 cm. A small chip to the brass hinge; the key is missing; a small section of the brass trim has come away. Provenance: from the family of the artist Louise IBELS, by bequest
