AUGIS. A 750‰ yellow gold ‘love’ medal inscribed with ‘More than yesterday and less than tomorrow’, set with three calibrated synthetic rubies. Blank reverse. Signed A.A. Eagle hallmark, French craftsmanship from 1838 onwards. 1.8 x 1.3 cm. Weight: 1g3. Good condition. It was in 1907 that Alphonse AUGIS, a jeweller in Lyon, inspired by a poem dedicated by the poetess Rosemonde Gérard to her husband, the writer Edmond Rostand, created the love medal. He had the idea of inscribing the two lines: “For you see, every day I love you more, today more than yesterday and far more than tomorrow.”
