Description
Paris Gradual, Proper of the Saints 18th-century in-plano volume of chants (62x45) Entirely handwritten, comprising 245 folios (pages 5 to 496), bound in full contemporary sheepskin, with an 8-ribbed spine, copper corners and simple geometric motifs on the covers (monastic binding). Text in black and red ink, with 6 polychrome decorative motifs (initials and lamp bases) depicting flowers, birds or insects. The volume bears the inscription ‘repaired by John Tardif, in the year 1847’ on the flyleaf Last known provenance: Abbaye du Gard in Picardy, then the private collection of Mr and Mrs L.
