France, Reign of Louis XVIII, First Restoration (1814-1815).
Rare pair of senior officer's (Lieutenant's) shoulder braces of the King's Musketeers of the 2nd Company known as the "Black Musketeers" of the King's Military Household.
The body is made of fine sheet steel sheathed in unbleached cloth lined with braided braid of silver thread and the underside lined with fine dark blue, almost black, woollen cloth. The crest is embroidered with the Musketeers' Cross, the centre in silver cannetille, bordered by baguettes in gold cannetille, the ends fleurdelisées in gold cannetille and three flames in silver cannetille in each corner. The escutcheon is edged with three gilt spun twirls with a double row of gold twisted fringes known as "spinach seeds" in gilt cannetille. The buttons are missing. They come in a cardboard box covered with blue paper.
As new, never collected before.
