Description
France or Germany, late 16th or early 17th century. Long pertuisane blade. Forged steel; all metal parts with a tobacco-coloured patina. Long, double-edged blade with double hollow edges and a pronounced central ridge. The base features two upward-curving hooks forming a crescent shape. Conical, faceted socket with a remnant of the original wooden tang. The splints have been removed. Total length of the blade to the base of the socket approx. 65 cm. (excluding the socket at the base of the crescent). Length of the fluted socket without the splints: approx. 12 cm. Width of the crescent: approx. 15 cm. (Signs of use and patina of age; discovered in an estate, never previously in a collection. Fairly good condition).
