Description
France, Reign of Louis XVI (1774–1793). Pair of officers’ flintlock saddle pistols signed “J. DUBOUCHET”. Calibre approx. 16 mm. All metal parts with a grey patina and staining in places. Round, smooth barrels with fluted sides, chiselled with blued and gilded arabesques, grooved and beaded, then round at the muzzle, fitted with barleycorn-patterned front sights. Round-bodied flintlock plates signed "J. Dubouchet" and round-bodied swan-neck hammers. Moulded walnut stocks with long barrels and silver-plated brass thumb rests, steel caps with long springs. Cut steel fittings. No handguards. Mechanisms in working order, with two distinct cocking notches and no play. The inside of the barrels is dirty with surface oxidation. 44 cm (Barrels 27 cm). (Signs of wear and patina; the gilding and bluing on the barrels are worn; pistols in the condition in which they were found, never previously in a collection, requiring cleaning. Good condition).
