Description
France, End of the Reign of Louis XVI (France, 1774–1793). Flintlock pistol. Calibre approx. 15 mm. Smooth-bore barrel with fluted sections, a bulge and a round muzzle, fitted with a barleycorn front sight. The breech block is engraved with friezes of geometric motifs. Round-bodied flintlock lock with a round swan-neck hammer, undecorated. Cut steel fittings, chiselled with small decorative motifs. Walnut stock with a long moulded barrel, decorated with silver fillet inlays. Steel cap with short lugs, chiselled with a small continuous decoration. Wooden trigger guard with a light-coloured horn tip. Functional mechanism with two distinct cocking notches, free of play. The inside of the barrel is clean. 32 x 17.5 cm. (Pistol previously restored, barrel re-bronzed, in good condition).
