Description
France, Revolution–Directoire period (1789–1799). Infantry Grenadier sabre, known as the ‘Briquet’, 1767 model, of Revolutionary-era manufacture, without scabbard. Brass-plated mount with twenty flutes and no half-guard. The guard arm forms a right angle with the crossguard and is stamped with the Klingenthal cock. It is stamped “No. 22” with a small flaming bomb. Flat blade with a flat back, featuring a mottled grey patina and traces of oxidation. Traces of a manufacturer’s mark on the back, “Manuf…”, illegible. 72.5 cm (blade 59 cm). (Signs of wear and use; in fairly good condition).
