Children’s toy: a scaled-down model of the Light Cavalry Officer’s sabre, Year IX type.
Hunter-style hilt in gilded brass (remains). Flat oval cap, long tail. The arms are decorated with foliage. Wooden handle bound with string, covered in filigree sheepskin with two strands of brass wire. Long, shuttle-shaped guard decorated with a shield, an antique-style helmet and a palmette. Curved crossguard decorated in the same style. Flat blade with a light grey patina, curved with a flat back. Steel scabbard with a light grey patina, oxidised with rust spots in places, featuring two ring fittings supported by two brass bands decorated with a helmeted Minerva within cartouches; the brass chape. Asymmetrical steel point.
