France, 20th century.
A fine reproduction of a Sapeur sabre from the Imperial Guard, in the First Empire style (1804–1814).
Cast brass mountings, with a pommel featuring a crowing cockerel, a sandblasted crest, a faceted tang, and a feathered upper section. Crossguard with a lion’s head knot on a sandblasted background. Straight quillons ending in lion’s heads. Natural leather strap. Strong white blade, curved with hollow sides and a flat back. Black leather scabbard with two brass fittings cut in a scalloped shape and decorated with line work, asymmetrical tip. Pommel with a button decorated with a lion’s muzzle.
90.5 cm (blade 71.5 cm).
