France, 20th century.
A fine reproduction of a Sapeur sabre from the Imperial Guard, in the First Empire style (1804–1814).
Cast brass mountings, with an eagle-head pommel, the beak slightly open, a faceted shaft, and the upper section feathered. Crossguard with a lion’s head knot on a sandblasted background. Straight quillons ending in lion’s heads. Buffalo leather grip. Strong white blade, curved with hollow edges and a flat back. Black leather scabbard with two brass fittings cut in a scalloped shape and decorated with line work, asymmetrical tip. Pommel with a button decorated with a lion’s muzzle.
