Description
France, First Empire (1804–1814) – Restoration (1814–1830). Pair of officer’s half-saddle flintlock pistols converted to percussion. Calibre approx. 12 mm. All metal parts with a light grey patina, stained in places. Smooth-bore octagonal barrels with rear sight and front sight. Flintlock lock converted to percussion, with a flat body, chiselled with a small floral motif. Hammers with flat bodies, chiselled with small matching decoration. Steel trigger guards cut in a bat-wing shape. Triggers under the trigger guard. Walnut stocks with fine checkering and short barrels, domed steel caps chiselled with small matching floral decoration. Steel trims present. Mechanism functional on one pistol, with two cocking positions, requiring servicing; the hammer does not always hold the second cocking position. The hammer is detached from the second pistol, fixing screw missing; the mechanism appears to function. The inside of the barrels is dirty. Pair of pistols in the condition in which they were found, never previously in a collection. 35.5 cm (Barrels 19 cm). (Signs of wear and normal use, minor knocks to the stock, in need of restoration, fairly good condition).
