France, Second Restoration (1815–1830).
Officer’s sabre of the Cuirassiers Regiment of the Duke of Orléans, 1817 model, from the Royal Manufactory of Klingenthal – Coulaux Frères.
Gilded cast brass mount, with one main branch and three secondary branches forming a shell decorated with the Arms of Orléans beneath a royal crown amidst oak and laurel branches, against a background of flags. Cap with a short-tailed rim, decorated on the top with a fleur-de-lis in relief encircled by a laurel wreath. Wooden handle bound with sheepskin and featuring a double braided brass filigree. Rounded and curved crossguard stamped with a palmette. No tie. Straight blade with two fuller grooves and a central ridge, engraved on its first third with the motto ‘VIVE LE ROI’ on one side and three fleurs-de-lis on the other. It is signed on the heel in cartouches: ‘Manufacture Royale de Klingenthal’ on one side and ‘Coulaux Frères’ on the other.
Steel scabbard with superficial traces of rust, featuring two steel suspension rings and silver-plated brass grommet straps (remnants of silver plating) moulded in relief with laurel branches. Steel pommel with a raised rim and an asymmetrical tip.
No hallmarks visible on the mount, the blade or the scabbard.
