National Guard Model 1821 Infantry Officer’s Sabre, manufactured by “Coulaux Frères à Klingenthal”.
Gilt cast brass mount (remnants) with a small secondary branch, a cap with a beaded rim and a rivet-button dome, and a short tail edged with laurel leaves. Wooden tang bound with cord and covered with sheepskin embossed with a brass filigree pattern. Arched joint ring with a central band chiselled with small flowers. Oval guard and curved quillon ending in a small flower and a series of small leaves. Blade with a mottled grey patina, curved, with a hollow edge and flat back, bearing the maker’s mark “C.F. Klingenthal”, corresponding to production in 1830. Tie missing. Black waxed leather scabbard with three gilt cast brass fittings and two suspension rings.
