France, Second Restoration (1815–1830).
1816-model footed artillery mace from the Royal Manufactory of Klingenthal, 1817.
All fittings are gilded with mercury; the one-piece cast brass hilt has eighteen scales with three steel rivets. The pommel is stamped with a fleur-de-lis on each side. Straight crossguard with a smooth, undecorated back, marked ‘1382’. Natural leather scabbard present. White 1816 model sword blade, with two small hollow sections near the heel and a long hollow section towards the point; the maker’s marks and hallmarks are heavily worn and partially legible: “Manufacture Royale de Klingenthal, .... 1817”. Blackened leather scabbard with a back seam offset to one side within one of the rounded sections and featuring two brass fittings. The crossguard is fitted with a leather tab. The blade is hallmarked "B" beneath a star within a shield and "9" within a shield. Traces of a manufacturer’s mark stamped into the leather (illegible).
