Description
France, Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). Model 1816 Foot Artillery Sabre. Cast brass mount with eighteen rows of scales, without rivets. The pommel stamped with the cockerel of the July Monarchy, the right leg resting on a globe, inscribed within a medallion on a sandblasted background, on each side. Straight crossguard with a sandblasted background, undecorated, with rounded quillons. Carp-tongue blade with two fuller grooves and a hollow back, with a light grey patina stained in places, without maker’s mark or hallmark. Blackened leather scabbard with a back seam offset to one side within one of the rounded sections and two brass fittings; the rectangular-shaped chape, numbered "619". 62.7 cm (48.2 cm). (Signs of wear and patina from age; an interesting variant featuring a large cock on the pommel; in good condition).
