Description
France, Reign of Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). Rare ‘POT EN TÊTE’ helmet of the 1838 model for engineering sappers. Bare helmet, made from a single piece of cast steel sheet, with twelve round-headed copper studs around the rim to secure the padding of the inner liner and the leather chin strap. Four brass studs are missing from this example. Manufacturer’s mark present on the lower left outer edge: “COULAUX Fres KLINGENTHAL”, and the serial number “114” on the lower right outer edge. Hallmarks beneath the visor, partly legible, including a capital "C" and "13" within a square, "3" and "9", and a final illegible mark. Gross weight 4.85 kg. (Signs of wear and tear, fairly good condition).
