Description
France, Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). 1816-type foot artillery sabre for an officer or non-commissioned officer of the National Guard. One-piece cast brass hilt with eighteen scales, without rivets. The pommel bears the emblem of the July Monarchy: a rooster with its right foot resting on a globe, set within a medallion on a sandblasted background, on each side. Straight crossguard with a sandblasted background, decorated in the centre with a five-petalled flower between two palmettes. 1816 model sword blade with a light grey patina, stained in places, featuring two small hollows near the heel and a long hollow towards the point. Manufacturer’s mark heavily worn, partly illegible, dated 1827. Two illegible hallmarks on the heel. Blackened leather scabbard with central back seam and two brass fittings; the pommel has an oval-shaped button. 63 cm (48.5 cm). (Signs of wear and minor accidents of use, good condition).
