Description
France, Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). Model 1831 infantry sabre, privately made by "JEAN" and bearing the same serial number. Cast bronze mount with twenty-six flutes, the crossguard bearing the serial number "258". Natural leather strap present. Blade with a slight mottled grey patina, double-edged with a carp-tongue shape and a triangular flat spot at the heel. Maker’s mark on the heel “JEAN” and stamped “L” beneath a crown within a rectangle. Blackened leather scabbard with a back seam offset to one side within one of the rounded sections and featuring two brass fittings; the chape with a trigger guard and its leather tab bears the same serial number "258". The dagger is stamped (stamps illegible). Traces of a manufacturer’s mark stamped into the leather (illegible). 63.5 cm (blade 48.5 cm). (Signs of wear and minor signs of use; in good condition).
