Description
France, Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). Model 1831 infantry sabre manufactured by ‘Coulaux Frères à Klingenthal’, bearing the same serial number. Cast bronze hilt with twenty-six flutes. Straight crossguard with quillons ending in rings, numbered 592. White double-edged blade in a carp-tail shape with a triangular flat at the heel, bearing the heavily worn marking "COULAUX FRERE" on one side and "KLINGENTHAL" on the other, and a cursive "B" hallmark within a shield for Jean-Georges BICK, first-class inspector at the Klingenthal factory, corresponding to the hallmark used for the period 1830–35. Blackened leather scabbard with central back stitching and two brass fittings; the crossguard bears the same number, 592. 63.5 cm (blade 48.5 cm). (Signs of wear and minor handling marks; blade markings heavily worn but partly legible; in good condition).
