Description
France, Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). Model 1831 infantry sabre from the Royal Armoury at Châtellerault, September 1844. Hilt in cast bronze with 26 flutes. Blade with mottled grey patina, double-edged with a carp-tail shape and a triangular flat at the heel. Manufacturer’s mark on the heel: ‘Manufacture Royale de Châtellerault Septembre 1844’ and stamped ‘G’ beneath a star within a circle and ‘B’ within a circle. Blackened leather scabbard with a back seam offset to one side within one of the rounded sections and featuring two brass fittings; the crossguard is fitted with a leather tab and bears two serial numbers: “58” (crossed out) and “33”. The blade is hallmarked "T" and a second illegible mark. 63.5 cm (blade 48.5 cm). (Signs of wear and use, in good condition).
